About time, Apple

Posted by Anticitizen on January 30, 2007

Well, Apple announced today on it’s website that the iPod shuffle is now availible in 5 different colors, a la the iPod nano (Aluminum). But the one thing that stands out, besides the new colors, Is that they no longer come with those absolutely horrid earbuds. You know, the ones that came with the 1G nano, the original iPod, etc. Those things hardly fit in my ears.

While I’m on the topic, I’m going to cover these earbuds. I just got myself a pair under warranty (My 2nd Gen nano didn’t come with any, because I bought it secondhand from my friend who dislikes iPods. Pfft.). Up to that point, I had used the original earbuds. I had enough of these things. They hurt my ears, they would fall out, and they would hang out of my ears.

So, I finally got enough of these horrid things, and ordered a pair of earbuds from Apple under warranty.

All I can say, is that I’m quite impressed with them. The gray parts on the old earbuds have been replaced with rubber, instead of plastic. This already makes things more comfortable.

The earbuds themselves are smaller, making them fit in my ears better. The rubber helps hold them into my ears.

The sound quality? Much better, in my opinion. Some may argue that there isn’t good bass in them, personally, I don’t care. I love these things.

Parents suck, I suppose.

Posted by Anticitizen on January 29, 2007

It seems parents like blackmailing the shit out of their children. While it may work on the younger and more naive, it totally fails at affecting the older of us, like me.

Take this guy living at my house for example. He tries to get control over something that was never his and never will be, my MacBook.

He warns me that kitchen better be cleaned within three hours or I lose my laptop for an entire week. Yeah, so? Well the laptop I depend on for school assignments, and my grade. I lose my laptop, grades crash. Not good, considering I already totally failed Economics.

So, okay, I’ll clean the kitchen…until I look at it. It’s a total mess of beer bottles and bowls from their weekend party. I did none of this. Yet this dude tells me it’s all my fault. What the f-?

So if I didn’t have it done by 11 PM, I’d lose my MacBook, my iPods, my power. So I got on it.

More to come as this unfolds.

Taking the plunge

Posted by Anticitizen on January 26, 2007

So I decided, amid all my Vista bashing, that I will order a copy of Vista and install it on my MacBook.

I will keep everyone posted when Vista arrives (6-8 weeks from the release date, MS says).

Another strange iPod problem

Posted by Anticitizen on January 17, 2007

Wow, today was quite weird.

I was listening to my iPod in class today, and a friend of mine wanted to look through the songs on my iPod. So I let him see it (While the earbuds were still in my ears, and I was watching him), and he scrolls through the artists, when suddenly, the iPod just dies. Screen goes blank, no warnings, nothing.

I immediately suspected the battery. I had my MacBook with me, so I asked another friend if I could use his dock connector cable. I plugged in my iPod, and there was no sign of any activity. Nothing at all. iTunes wouldn’t see the iPod, the iPod wouldn’t charge, etc. I even booted into Windows, and still, no avail. At that point, I tried resetting the iPod, and it still wouldn’t start up.

So, later that day, when I had more time to screw with it, I tried putting it into disk mode. Lo and behold, it started up in disk mode. Having power flowing through the iPod, I then reset it, and it started up, with a full battery (So much for that…).

Interesting, G3 iMac smokes G4 Power Mac

Posted by Anticitizen on January 17, 2007

Recently, I had the pleasure of working with a G3 iMac (400MHz, 512MB RAM), and boy, it felt a lot faster than my Power Mac G4.

There was a myth that the AltiVec slows down the G4 processors. I guess this could be true. Mac OS X was definitely speedier on the iMac, and starting applications was also speedier. Hell, starting a G4-optimized build of Firefox was faster.

I guess that myth has some truth to it.

So, the MacBook Pro begins having problems

Posted by Anticitizen on January 10, 2007

Hmm, for some reason, on my MacBook Pro’s third month of ownership (It was purchased on Nov. 8th, around that time), it begins having problems.

The Temperature won’t stay down. Not even running the fans at max speed will keep the temperature down anymore.

More on this tomorrow.

Broken video card

Posted by Anticitizen on January 1, 2007

Okay, so my G4 suddenly died on me.

I figured I’d look at the video card. That thing’s been grinding for whatever reason. Sure enough, it was the fan.

So, time to replace it!

I’ll just say, an electric screwdriver can get you pretty far.
I’ll post the results soon.
