iTunes DRM sucks sometimes

Posted by Anticitizen on January 3, 2008

I never thought I’d be shafted by iTunes’ DRM, of all things.

I bought some 15 songs on my previous iPod, and bought an additional two on my iPod Touch. I have no authorizations remaining, and somehow, I’ve used the one “Deauthorize all” that I have for the year.

My lineup is/was:

MacBook Pro: Stolen, Authorized

Power Mac G4: Dead, Authorized

Dell Laptop: Supposedly authorized

Friend’s laptop: Authorized, deauthorized.

So wait, I should have two remaining. Somehow I don’t. So, when I plugged my iPod into my Dell, which somehow was DEAUTHORIZED, it rendered all my DRM’ed music useless on my iPod touch. Since the iPod touch sucks it’s info off whatever computer it’s plugged into, it sucked it’s info off the Dell, which isn’t authorized, thus breaking all my DRM’ed music. It’s still there; it just won’t play at all. And the 15 or so tracks on my iPod 5G? I can’t move those AT ALL.

So, as a last resort, I’ll have to call up Apple and get them to deauthorize all my computers. I’ll post back when that has happened.
