iPod/iPhone jabber

Posted by Anticitizen on June 13, 2008

So, I’m sure the entire Mac blogosphere (Especially the folk here at Antiblog) has heard about Apple’s plans to bring the iPhone down to $200. Of course, this will bring a ton of people to the iPhone. Plus, it boasts 3G, and GPS. Of course it’s going to be a damn good deal.

So why am I objecting a bit? Why does good ol’ Anti have a problem with the good ol’ iPhone becoming more affordable?

I’ll explain that.

As with the iPod, since the iPhone’s price is taking a nosedive, of course, the userbase will ratchet up quite a bit. But what I’m worried about is people are going to buy iPhones, who don’t really deserve them.

Now before you lynch me, let me explain my position.

What I’m referring to (Going on just one year out of High School, by the way), is some of the things I witnessed in High School, but not with iPhones. Rather, iPods. Mainly the Nano, but anyway. I would regularly see people abuse the crap out of their equipment. They’d shove keys into their pocket with their iPods, they’d sling them around, they’d wrap the headphones around them REALLY tight (That’s a no-no) and just be all-out abusive toward the iPods.

Same thing with mobile phones. These kids had no respect for the things.

So what I’m getting at here, is that I’m afraid that some kids are going to just toss these $400 pieces of equipment around like they didn’t cost a dime, and that they can get another one for free, just like that.

While I was at the Apple Store Walnut Creek today, I noticed someone brought in an 8GB 3G Nano with a busted screen. The kid looks like he had sat on the damned thing. This is exactly what I’m trying to get at.

So the gist of what I am saying is that by also making the iPhone available to all customers, we also get these idiots who shouldn’t be given the opportunity to even hold one of the things because they have no respect for equipment.

Especially when I used to go to a learning center in Walnut Creek (Around the time the 1G nano came out) I heard of these little rich kids breaking iPod nanos in half just to see if they’d bend. Things like that really piss me off. Especially the kids on the internet who microwaved an iPod.

People who have a blatant disrespect for tech should go to hell.
